Tip: Place a Fully Functional Recycle Bin on your Windows 7 Taskbar

I can’t remember the last time I used the Recycle Bin to recover a deleted file, nor can I see how dragging and dropping selected files and folders to the Recycle Bin is any easier than either pressing the Delete key or right-clicking and selecting Delete, but for those of you out there who like having a minimalist Desktop, yet retain easy access to the Recycle Bin, the following tip is for you.

By Matthew DeCarlo on September 15, 2009

By default, Windows Vista and 7 strip the desktop of all icons but the Recycle Bin.

You can hide the icon in just a few seconds, but at the cost of losing quick access to deleted files. You could also drag the Recycle Bin icon to the taskbar, but then it will appear pinned under Windows Explorer -- requiring an extra click to open and offering half the functionality.

This tip shows you one method of bringing a fully functional Recycle Bin to your Windows 7 Taskbar, so you can clear off your desktop once and for all with little to no compromise.

Note, this tip uses the Quick Launch toolbar (also, by default, missing in Windows 7).
